The main argument of this book is that the methods prescribed by theorists in foreign language education have failed to suit our needs and that language teachers must find an alternative. The author, B. Kumaravadilvelu, who is a professor of applied linguistics at San Jose State University, postulates a postmethod condition in which teachers search for their own pedagogy based on the theories constructed by themselves. A recommendation of a framework consisting of a set of macrostrategies follows the conceptualization of teaching acts in relation to methods and theories. In the end, he provides us with guidance for monitoring teaching, which he calls a macrostrategies/mismatch observational scheme (M & M observational scheme, for short).
